Oh! Thank you. I would like to know the justification WT makes for a move that seems anti progressive. Is the need for a simplified version not useful? An unneeded extra cost? Are those simplified versions piling up in the magazine room? Do they even have magazine rooms anymore? Lol.

JWs using 'apostate' phraseology?
by neat blue dog ini've mentioned before how a regular pioneer used the phrases "tight-pants tony" and "don't drink the kool-aid".
well the other week, a different regular pioneer, and elderly one in fact, was talking about the simplified watchtower being discontinued and the normal one replacing it, and she said 'i guess they're just gonna dumb-down everything'.
then too even the org itself used the words "fade" and "shun" in recent articles, words that were previously shied away from.. anybody here experienced something similar, a seeming pimi saying something that makes you wonder if they've been sneaking ex-jw 'spiritual food' on the side?.

Could you clarify? How is replacing the simplified WT with the normal one a “dumbing-down”? Are they going back to the 32 page magazine? I’m just not familiar with what they publish anymore.

How many here think Trump's news conference this evening was absolutely brilliant
by ShirleyW ini'm being serious, i would like to hear from folks here that support him describe to me how that news conference was absolute brilliance, he answered all the questions, he knows what he is talking about.
just want to compare note with those who aren't his supporters (and have common sense) as you know this forum is here to hear both sides, so, have at it .

Na, I think that is unfair. Fervor for a leader is common. I see nothing extraordinary about the supporters for Trump. None of them are being controlled to the point of excommunication if they don’t keep in line.
It’s natural to shy away from “facts” that don’t square with your views and find an alternative approach to those facts. That’s easy to do in such a polarized partisan environment.
Fear is a tactic used by Watchtower to control the “sheep”. I don’t think Trump supporters are controlled through fear.
Cult of this, cult of that. It seems society wants to apply the label to everything, but in reality it just diminishes the severe reality of actual cults and the experiences associated with them.

question about the go bags.
by goingthruthemotions inits been a minute since posting, have been trying to put this cult in my review mirror and just live life.
but you know this beast rears it's evil head.
my wife found my crisis of conscience book and out came the horns plus i guess what she is hearing at the meetings isn't helping either.

It’s a sham. It’s not a serious campaign to teach them legitimate emergency preparedness. It’s a ploy to keep them constantly dwelling on Armageddon as a real possibility by making them accomplish a physical task and then look at that physical “go bag” as a constant physical reminder that the destruction of mankind is a very real foundation of their belief system.
When I was a little kid my mom would tell me that when the tribulation came we would all just go into the Kingdom Hall and be protected.
Now they have go bags and bunkers and play more in the element of fear for shock value. If they had a real clue their bunkers would look more like the LDS. ;)

I live in California in a place prone to fires and flooding and I’ve been through two earthquakes that rendered my dwelling condemned.
I have serious “go bags”, crates, vehicle upgrades and bug out plans for the entire family along with firearms and ammo to last 6 months.
Watchtower’s Armageddon isn’t coming but I’m all for emergency preparedness.
Every year Watchtower gives a chunk of time to talk about preparing for the great tribulation and packing a go bag. Some take it seriously some don’t.

He cut people off instead of hearing out questions and he often went on a tangent about something unrelated to the question. He was also very repetitive, going over the same words and phrases 2 or 3 times in the same stream of a single answer. Over the span of several minutes some of his statements seemed to be contradictory to what he had just stated minutes earlier, almost as if he wanted a satisfactory answer to be available to listeners with different expectations.
I appreciated his complete candor on many answers, as if he wasn’t trying to be diplomatic. There is no guesswork when he makes straightforward statements like that. Of course those items were nothing new, he has made his stance on them clear in the past.
He also has a decent sense of humor. He has been pretty nasty toward some media representatives, but now he appears to be making light of his pet peeves with some humor laced in. Probably because it wasn’t a rally with his base but instead a room full of media.
I was surprised he said his mind could be changed on the Kavanaugh appointment after calling all the late accusations a con job.
I was amused that he equates “con job” with “confidence job”
I think he is wise to express confidence in Rosenstein when many are telling him to fire the guy.
I think he is honest for saying that his view on assault accusations is different from many because he has had his own share of accusations launched at him.
It wasn’t brilliant. It was a glimpse into his prowess as a tv personality. It was a rare look at him in a full fledged media event. That made it captivating, entertaining and somewhat enlightening.
But there is a very real possibility that much of what he stated will be contradicted by what he says tomorrow or throughout the week. But he knows that and he knows it’s why everyone waits for his next words.

If he is as invalid as he appears, prison seems like a reward to me. Put a gps on him and let him pay for his own hospice. -

In my late teens nearly a dozen of us “good JW kids” took a lake boat out on a certain large natural reservoir lake in California where swimming was strictly not allowed. I have no idea how the booze and weed got on board or why we were all compelled to strip naked and jump in. Even harder to believe is there were absolutely no repurcussions. I think about most of my partners in crime often. Some of them are still believers. It was one of the only truly magical moments I can remember from an otherwise mundane JW youth. Well maybe not only.
I thought that was crazy. This takes the cake.

EU Court Ruling Against WT on Data-Protection
by cofty intoday's london times reports on the july ruling of the eu court that forces the organisation country to comply with data protection.. the action originated in finland but the ruling will affect every eu country.
the cult tried unsuccessfully to argue that the notes taken by jws in the door-to-door work were personal and not accessed by the congregation.
the court ruled that they are acting under the auspices of the congregation and therefore they must comply with data-protection laws.. keeping lists of do-not-calls also falls under this ruling.. why does the cult always feel that it is above the law?.

At pioneer school we were encouraged to make copious notes obout observations specifically about those that we actually made contact with. In fact, forget the space on the “not at home” slip where it said notes, and keep a small journal instead. Mini investigators and groomed stalkers is what we really were. Sharing is why we kept the notes, like a diary of juicy gossip as we drove from “return visit” to “regular call”.

Dirt Fishing - Latest Coin Finds
by cofty init's that time of year again when i can get back on the fields with the metal detector looking for ancient stuff.
the first field to be harvested was full of peas - ideal as it leaves no stubble and it's a two minute walk from my house.
it has given up two coins in two visits this week.. the first one is a cut-half silver penny from the reign of henry ii.

When I was a kid my parents wanted me to pull weeds and cut back the bushes. They demonstrated how you could find coins that people dropped in the yard over the years as they showed me how to run the hoe and sheers. I was impressed. I made about $5 in coins that day and the yard work was pristine.
I’m still a bit irritated it took me so long to figure out the ruse.
